‘Gift of the Magi’ will be presented at LifeHouse Theater.

LifeHouse Theater is presenting a new original Christmas musical entitled “Gift of the Magi” this month.

Set against the backdrop of the Depression era, this world premiere presentation showcases the story of the tenants in a small apartment building, including married couple Jim and Della Young, sisters Josefina and Susanna Greenly, and landlords Henry and Abigail Swanson.

It’s the season of giving, but Jim and Della lack the resources needed to give each other that one perfect gift. Susanna is caring for her sickly sister, and Henry and Abigail struggle with a marriage that has grown distant.

The spirit of Christmas brings about a change in each relationship as love, sacrifice and seasonal joy are celebrated.

The musical, written and directed by Sarah Pearce and Jeremy Yeo, will be staged through Dec. 29. Performances are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Regular advance ticket prices for each production are $22 or $26 for adults and $11 or $13 for children ages 3-11 (no children under 3 are admitted) and can be purchased over the phone with a Visa or MasterCard by calling (909) 335-3037. Tickets are available online at

"We are excited to present a new Christmas musical to celebrate the season," said Wayne Scott, founder and president of LifeHouse Theater. "We're all familiar with the traditional stories encountered so often at Christmas. This classic gem from O. Henry deserves to be staged as a new musical for everyone's enjoyment. It's heartwarming to experience such an inspiring story with beautiful carols woven in."

“Gift of the Magi” features a cast of performers from all over the Inland Empire. The musical features Jonathan Bushey as Henry Swanson, Virginia Watterson as Abigail Swanson, Nathan Smith as Jim Young, Jana Smith as Della Young, Alondra Mendez-Acosta as Susanna Greenly, Tiffany Michel as Josefina Greenly, Danny Blair as Matthew Behrman, Dawn Gilmore as Agnes Swanson, Micah Derry as Reginald, Hannah Smith as Faith and Chris Hallenbeck as Madame Sonofrie.

The theater is located at 1135 N. Church Street in Redlands, next to the Redlands Christian School. Free parking is available in back of the theater. More information can be found by visiting the website at
