Astronaut Andy performed on the first day of the Summer Reading Program at the Lewis Library on June 6. There will be a wide variety of free performances throughout the summer.

The Lewis Library and Technology Center in Fontana is inviting local residents to “Join the Galactic Forces,” which is the theme of the free Summer Reading Program.

The “blast-off” event was held on June 6 with a performance by Astronaut Andy in the Steelworkers’ Auditorium, and the fun will continue with several special presentations and prize giveaways through the end of July.

Here is the schedule of family-friendly performances (all shows are at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.):

June 23 — Pacific Animal Productions, live animal show

June 27 — The Wacko Show, magic show

June 30 — Mobile Zoo of Southern California, live animal show

July 7 — Saving Wildlife International, live animal show

July 11 — Arty Loon, magic and juggling

July 14 — Thor’s Reptiles, reptile safari

July 18 — Michael Rayner, wacky juggling

July 21 — Full Spectrum Animal Show, live animal show

July 25 — Marc Griffiths, ventriloquism and puppet show

July 28 — Michael Rayner, wacky juggling

(The library will be closed on June 19, June 20, and July 4.)

Other programs include:

• Library Beginners (ages 0-5) — Book and craft, Mondays at 11 a.m.

• Kids Zone (ages 6-11) — Discovery Time, Tuesdays at 2 p.m.; Craft Station, Fridays at 11 a.m.

• Family Movie (all ages) — Wednesdays, 6 p.m.

Librarian Stephanie Ramos said many great prizes will be given away during the Summer Reading Program, which is open to residents of all ages. All participants will receive a free book bag when they sign up for the program at the library.

Branch hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
