The Summer Reading Program will get under way with a Kickoff Party at the Lewis Library and Technology Center in Fontana on Tuesday, June 11.

The annual two-month program, which offers many prizes and is free and open to all ages, will run through Aug. 3.

The kickoff celebration will run from 4 to 7 p.m. and will include crafts, face painting, balloon artists, a DJ, and prize giveaways.

In keeping with the theme of "Tales of Enchantment," there will be appearances by Belle, Snow White, and Princess Jasmine.

There will also be a performance called "It's Not Magic, it's Science" by Full Spectrum Entertainment at 4 p.m.

"Enjoy an amazing fairytale-themed experience, meet some favorite characters, and earn some awesome rewards for meeting reading goals," said Liz Smith, the services and programs lead for San Bernardino County.

Smith said that this year the county's library system is taking the summer program online.

"People can now create an account, log the amount of reading each week and earn digital badges through the San Bernardino County Library program site, sbclib.beanstack.org. Don’t forget to visit the library weekly to pick up your earned rewards and enjoy all of the fun activities the library has planned throughout the summer," Smith said.

The Lewis Library is located at 8437 Sierra Avenue. For more information, call (909) 574-4500.
