The City of Rancho Cucamonga has announced that its Fourth of July fireworks show has been canceled.
The event had been scheduled take place at the Chaffey College campus on Saturday.
"In the interest of public safety, city officials decided to cancel the show when it became clear there would be large crowds of visitors from outside the city, leading to unmanageable traffic and trash impacts, as well as potential public safety concerns in our quiet residential neighborhoods," the city said in a news release on July 2. "The extensive media coverage and the cancellation of most shows in the region contributed to these concerns. The health and well-being of our community remains our top priority and current circumstances would not be conducive for a safe family-oriented show planned for residents only."
The show was intended for residents to view from the safety and comfort of their home, the city said.
"Given the current State Department of Public Health and County guidelines on large gatherings, we ask that residents continue to follow the protocols set in place and refrain from large public gatherings," the city said.
Also, no fireworks display will be held in Fontana.
