After almost a year of construction work, the famous Route 66 -- also known as Foothill Boulevard -- has a new traffic signal and other improvements to enhance the flow of traffic in Fontana.
The project area on Foothill between Oleander Avenue and just east of Cypress Avenue includes the traffic signal at Oleander, a raised landscaped median, sidewalks, decorative street lights, storm drain improvements, bike lanes and pavement rehabilitation.
This completion of the project that began in January increases traffic flow and safety through this section of the busy city corridor, the Fontana Engineering Department said.
The landscaped median with nighttime accent lighting also enriches the corridor aesthetics for adjacent businesses.
The project was completed with a $1.2 million Highway Safety Improvement Program-Local (HSIPL) grant.
