Officers with the Fontana Police Department's Narcotics Unit busted a large scale marijuana ring after an ongoing investigation that originated in Fontana, police said.
On March 16, 2016, police served narcotics search warrants at four locations in Riverside County. The warrants were based on an investigation that stemmed from a large marijuana seizure last October in Fontana. The four locations were believed to be illegally involved in large scale marijuana cultivation and distribution.
Two warrants were served in Menifee, one in Aguanga and one in Hemet with the help of the Drug Enforcement Agency. Officers arrested Eric Lai, Leo Bounnavongsor, Lom Phanhkomp, Kham Thavron, Jeremy Thavron and Ray Robertson for their alleged involvement.
Two of the locations involved were found to be large outdoor marijuana cultivation operations. The first location had nearly 1,500 mature marijuana plants. Officers also located six weapons, from handguns to scoped long rifles. The second location revealed more than 3,700 mature marijuana plants and one handgun.
Thavron was arrested for alleged cultivation and weapons violations. All the other suspects face cultivation charges. They were booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
