An 87-year-old man who was riding a bicycle was killed in a traffic collision in San Bernardino on Dec. 23, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.
At about 4:16 p.m., a Mercury Sable driven by an 80-year-old San Bernardino resident was headed westbound on Baseline Street in the No. 1 lane, approaching the intersection with Crestview Avenue. The traffic signal was green for westbound traffic on Baseline.
A bicyclist, identified as Andreas Moreno of San Bernardino, was crossing Baseline from Crestview in a southeast direction. The bicyclist rode through cross traffic on Baseline Street. The motorist did not see Moreno and collided with him, police said.
As a result of the collision, Moreno suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries. It appears that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in this collision, police said.
