A man was killed in a traffic collision on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Colton, and a driver was arrested on a DUI charge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
On Sept. 2 at about 7:35 a.m., a 2004 Silver Saturn Ion driven by a 62-year-old Los Angeles man was stopped in the No. 4 lane of the westbound I-10, west of Mount Vernon Avenue.
A 30-year-old Colton man was driving a 2013 black Jeep Wrangler Honda in the No. 4 lane at about 55 miles per hour. For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep collided into the rear of the Saturn and caused the Jeep to overturn.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the Saturn was transported to a local hospital for major injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner's Division.
The driver of the Jeep was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. He was identified as Jeffrey Ornelas Jr.
