A man shot at an officer at a bank in Colton and later committed suicide at the location on Oct. 1, according to the Colton Police Department.

At about 6:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Chase Bank at 2005 East Washington Street in reference to a possible robbery.

As officers arrived and approached the front of the business, they were shot at from a suspect inside the bank. The suspect’s shots shattered the front windows of the bank and an officer sustained an injury.

The Inland Valley SWAT team and the San Bernardino County Bomb Squad cleared the building and found no additional threats.

The unidentified suspect was found deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The injured officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Colton Police Department Detective Division is investigating the incident.
