The California Highway Patrol is investigating an incident in which a pedestrian from Fontana was struck and killed on a freeway.

A 39-year-old pedestrian who lived in Fontana was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on the Route 210 Freeway in Rialto on Aug. 3, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 9:25 p.m., the pedestrian was walking across traffic lanes of eastbound 210, west of Riverside Avenue.

A 54-year-old Upland man was driving a 2014 Gray Toyota Tundra and traveling eastbound at an unknown speed when the Toyota hit the pedestrian.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency medical personnel. He was later identified as Dewayne Barnard Wimberly, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner’s Division.

This collision is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Officer J. Richard at the San Bernardino CHP Area office at (909) 383-4247.
