The Rialto Police Department is conducting an investigation into a major injury hit-and-run traffic collision.

On Sept. 27 at about 9:12 p.m., police received several 9-1-1 calls reporting an collision in the area of the 900 block of S. Riverside Avenue.

Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and found a severely injured woman lying in the roadway. The woman was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of her injuries. She was later identified by family members as Kim Nguyen, 75.

Evidence located at the scene is believed to belong to a 1999-2000 Toyota Solara. Through witness statements, it was found that the woman was jaywalking from her apartment complex westbound across Riverside when she was struck by the Toyota traveling in the southbound lane of Riverside from Randall Avenue, police said. After Nguyen was struck, the Toyota fled the scene without stopping.

My name is Cherish. Kim was my grandmother.

She passed away during the morning of the 28th due to the injuries. The 14th of October would have been her 83rd birthday.

She is survived by her 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

Our family are seeking closure for this tragic incident.
