After investigating a case in which a kidnapping was believed to have occurred, the Fontana Police Department determined that no crime had been committed.

The incident involved a man who allegedly kidnapped his former girlfriend in Fontana on March 14, according to initial reports.

At about 6:30 p.m., a Fontana P.D. officer was in the area of the 9800 block of Pepper Avenue when he was flagged down by frantic family members and witnesses.

The officer was made aware that a woman who lives in the area was allegedly forcibly taken and thrown into the back seat of a 2012 Nissan Altima.

The suspect, who was identified as the woman's ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Hernandez, 20, of Rialto, fled the scene.

On March 15, Fontana P.D. detectives located and detained Hernandez and also found the alleged victim, who was uninjured.

Then, after police interviewed the people involved in the incident, Hernandez was not arrested and was released from police custody, the P.D. said. No kidnapping was determined to have occurred.
