No persons were arrested when officers from the Fontana Police Department conducted a shoulder tap decoy operation last month.
During the operation on Oct. 10, four locations in Fontana were visited and a total of 18 subjects were contacted. All of the subjects who were contacted refused to purchase alcohol for the minor decoy, police said.
"Achieving full compliance with sales to a minor decoy is always our goal," the Fontana P.D. said in a news release on Nov. 7.
Police conduct these operations several times each year. Under the program, a minor under the direct supervision of a peace officer will stand outside a liquor or convenience store and ask patrons to buy him or her alcohol. If the adults agree to purchase alcohol for the minor, officers and agents then arrest and cite them.
The penalty for furnishing alcohol to a minor is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
