San Bernardino County 2nd District Supervisor Janice Rutherford is seeking applications from young people interested in joining the upcoming 2019-20 Second District Youth Council.

“This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved with their community while also learning a lot about their local government,” Rutherford said.

Rutherford started the Youth Council in 2016. Since the group’s inception, students have collected donations for local families, launched social media campaigns to promote kindness and health living, and participated in job shadowing in County departments.

The Council meets from 5 to 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in Rancho Cucamonga. The term of the Council is from September to May, but there may be some optional events during the summer. In addition, the group performs community service projects on evenings and weekends.

YC members must reside in or attend a high school in the 2nd District, have access to email, and provide their own transportation to meetings and events.

Interested youth can access an application under the Open Government tab on Rutherford’s homepage, www.sbcounty.gov/rutherford.
