A man died in a single-vehicle collision in Fontana on July 19.  A truck towed away the BMW after the completion of the police investigation.

A man died in a single-vehicle collision in Fontana on the morning of July 19, according to the Fontana Police Department.

The crash took place in the 7900 block of Sierra Avenue, north of Foothill Boulevard, at 3:02 a.m.

The driver was heading south on Sierra when his BMW went off the roadway, collided with a tree, and sheared off a fire hydrant, police said.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:15 a.m. He was later identified as Daniel Luis, a 24-year-old resident of Rialto, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner's Division.

The Fontana Police Department was investigating the collision.
