A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man to death and wounding a woman in Fontana, according to the Fontana Police Department.

Devale Malik Damond Wright was arrested leaving his residence in the 7400 block of Topanga Avenue in Fontana on July 30.

The Inland Valley SWAT Team later served a search warrant at Wright’s home, where evidence of the murder was located, police said.

Wright did not know his victims, police said. A motive for the attack is not yet known. Wright was booked at West Valley Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The incident occurred on July 27 at about 4:25 a.m., when Fontana Police Dispatch received 911 calls regarding gunshots heard in the 9800 block of Poplar Avenue. Officers arrived and located the two people in the street with gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to area hospitals, where the 20-year-old man was pronounced deceased. The 40-year-old woman was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims were transients, police said.
