A 21-year-old Fontana man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his grandfather 20 times in the face on Dec. 10, according to the Fontana Police Department.
The 61-year-old grandfather suffered great bodily injury but was able to flee for help and was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Fontana for treatment, police said. He is expected to survive with severe facial trauma and disfigurement.
The incident occurred at about 7:13 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the 8900 block of Pepper Avenue.
They learned that Anthony Hernandez had allegedly stabbed his grandfather during an argument and then fled to a neighbor's house, asking to come inside with a bloody knife in his hand. Once inside, he told the family he had just killed his grandfather. He allegedly refused to let the family leave or use the telephone and held them against their will, police said.
Officers were notified of the suspect's whereabouts and then when they made contact with the suspect at the front door, he was arrested without incident, police said. No one in that residence was injured.
Hernandez was booked at West Valley Detention Center on charges of attempted homicide and false imprisonment.
