Known as Fontana’s longest tenure resident (89 years) and City Historian, Ben Castellini passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of July 24, 2019.
His knowledge and memory of the history of Fontana and Kaiser Steel was second to none. He loved to share his memories to help preserve the history of the City he so loved.
Ben moved to Fontana at age 1 1/2. He went to work at Kaiser Steel in 1952, from which he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Fontana Historical Society, serving on the board and as a member.
Known for his love of family and community, he will be deeply missed. He has gone on to join his wife of 48 years, Betty, so they can once again dance to the Beer Barrel Polka. He will also enjoy the company of his father, Virgil, his brothers Silvio and Felix, his daughter Georgette as well as many pre deceased friends and extended family.
He is survived by his son, Dan Castellini, his daughter, Katherine Castellini, his daughter Babette Seaman, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews, Kempster Avenue neighbors, and life long friends.
Services will be held at Green Acres Memorial Park, 11715 Cedar Avenue, Bloomington, greenacresmorturary.com. Viewing will be Wednesday, July 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. Life Celebration will be held at the Fontana Rialto Elks Lodge at 1 p.m., located at 1540 West Rialto Avenue, Rialto.
