Marie Cartzdafner, born Feb. 21, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on July 29 2019 at 100.
Her family moved to Long Beach when she was 3, then to Altadena, where she attended Pasadena High School and Pasadena City College. Graduating from U.C.L.A. in 1940 with a B.A., she began teaching physical education in Pasadena and married Kenny Cartzdafner in 1941. They celebrated 61 years together.
The family moved to Fontana in 1952. In 1955, Marie began teaching kindergarten at Randall Pepper Elementary School in Fontana, where she continued teaching until her retirement in 1981. Marie and family were long time members and active in the Fontana Community Church.
In retirement, Marie enjoyed travels across the USA, Europe, Central America and Asia, playing bridge, and volunteering in several organizations, including the YWCA and Fontana Community Church Women’s Circle.
In 2008, Marie continued enjoying retirement in Redlands.
She is survived by her three children, Suzie Oberg, Gary Cartzdafner and Jan Scearce; four grandchildren, Jamie, Jill, Scott, and Kevin; and nine great-grandchildren.
