Mike I. Chavez, 74, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019.
Mike was born on Sept. 16, 1944 in Fontana, and was also raised in Fontana to Jesse and Pilar Chavez.
Mike was retired from the Laborers Local #783. He worked at S.E. Pipeline Construction Company for 25 years. After his retirement, he worked for Panadent Corporation in Grand Terrace for eight years.
Mike enjoyed coaching his boys' little league teams and his daughters' softball teams in the 1970s. Mike had a love for classic cars, he enjoyed his 1954 Chevy and the casinos. Even after being sent home with hospice, he made one more trip to the casino for Father’s Day 2019.
In September 1965 he married his wife Caroline. They were married for 53 years.
Mike was preceded by the death of his son Xavier (Harvey) Chavez, who he dearly missed, and his sister, Ruby, and brothers, Oscar, Jesse Jr., and Fred Chavez, and both of his parents.
Mike is survived by his wife, Caroline; two daughters, Michelle Chavez and Veronica Chavez, both of Fontana; a son, Martin (Rafaela) Chavez of Hesperia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Patty Chavez of Fontana and Linda Bocanegra of Rialto; and a brother, Lupe Chavez of Fontana.
Services for Mike will be on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. Mass will be at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 222 E. Easton Street, Rialto. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington. A reception will be at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1540 W. Rialto Avenue, Rialto.
