Dear Editor:

The Green New Deal deserves unanimous support from Inland Empire representatives -- a region severely impacted by climate change in regard to clean water access, severely poor air quality, and wildfires.

This bold and ambitious framework for future legislation is designed to eliminate the U.S. carbon footprint by 2030.

The world’s leading climate scientists have warned there are only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

Our country and communities deserve bold policies that uplift all with critical investments that combat climate change while creating good high paying jobs, and fighting racial, economic, and gender inequity. This generation is not interested in platitudes and we deserve actions that reflect the needs of the people and the environment.

When we envision the world we wish to leave our children and future generations, it has to be one that is sustainable, equitable, and livable for all.
