Dear Editor:

After reading last week's article reporting on the financial challenges the FUSD will face during this new school year, I have two questions:

1) What were the "one-time expenditures" last year that "will not reappear in the new budget," that helped cause last year's $21.4 million deficit? We taxpayers have a right to know!

2) With a 2 percent annual decline, since 2005, of students in our district (5,000 fewer students now than in 2005), why is the district "planning to implement two major projects," with the cost of one of them to be $80 million? Wouldn't it make more sense to add to, or enhance, the schools already in existence?
