City leaders held two special events recently to demonstrate their enthusiasm about bringing more soccer and football facilities to Fontana.

----- ON OCT. 17, the city held a groundbreaking ceremony for Central City Park, which will be located behind the Cypress Community Center in central Fontana. This 14.5-acre sports facility will feature two synthetic turf football fields with soccer overlays, one synthetic turf soccer-only field, an ADA accessible playground, and sports lighting for nighttime play.

Construction is expected to begin in the early part of 2019, with a completion date of early 2020.

----- THEN ON OCT. 22, a land dedication ceremony took place for the future South Fontana Sports Park, which is planned on Santa Ana Avenue between Cypress and Juniper avenues.

The South Fontana Sports Park will feature:

• Four synthetic turf football/soccer fields

• Sports lighting for nighttime play

• ADA accessible playground

• Concessions, storage, and restroom buildings

• Walking path

Construction is projected to begin in 2019, with an estimated completion date in 2020.
