For the second year in a row, Javier Madrid achieved top honors in the Fontana Days Run.
In 2018, Madrid sped to the victory in the Half Marathon, and this year, he dashed past all of the other runners in the 5K competition.
"It was awesome," the Yucaipa resident said after easily winning the race with a time of 15:27 on June 1.
"I ran the Half Marathon last year and loved the race," he said. "I thought it was a very well-put-on event, and so this year I figured I would take my shot at the 5K, and I loved every moment of it, just like last year."
Brett Bernacchi, a 47-year-old resident of Phoenix, Ariz., came in second place with a time of 16:27. Mark Vishnevsky of Running Springs was third at 16:50 and Hared Perez of Moreno Valley was fourth at 17:37.
Alanna Bernacchi, 43, of Phoenix was the first female finisher at 17:59. She took fifth place overall.
Other top finishers in the 5K were Dominic Cardenas with a time of 18:15, Angel Marin (18:19), Zyeir Shabete Jr. (18:28), Dean Ewing (18:33), and Kenji Takeuchi (18:50).
----- IN THE HALF MARATHON, Andrew Liao was the dominant runner. The 44-year-old Liao coasted to the win with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes, 57 seconds.
Tony Torres took second place at 1:13:31.
Weslie Pearce was the first female runner to complete the Half Marathon. The 24-year-old Pearce clocked in at 1:14:17, good for third place overall.
Justin Grove, 16, of Fontana took fourth place with a time of 1:18:34.
He was followed by Tyler Shannon, who had a time of 1:18:44. Eric Mariscal was sixth at 1:19:15 and Alan Squyres was seventh at 1:19:40.
Alejandro Quezada of Fontana, who has performed well in this event several times, came in eighth place at 1:19:48. Nick Tustison was ninth at 1:20:02 and Aaron Hake was 10th at 1:20:14.
