In their first year in the Mountain Valley League, the Fontana A.B. Miller High School basketball men have made a huge impact by winning the undisputed championship.
The Rebels destroyed Vista del Lago, 67-19, on Jan. 25 to wrap up the title with a record of 11-1 (17-5 overall).
"It was a great accomplishment for us," said head coach Gerry Alvarez. "We have a great group of kids, great coaching staff, and great support group here at the school. We put in a lot of hard work and I was excited with the outcome."
Junior guard Jimmy Reyes has led the way for the Rebels, averaging 27.5 points per game. Another guard, Terrell Allen, has been outstanding at providing senior leadership, Alvarez said.
The coach added that he is pleased with the development of 6-foot-8 sophomore Christian Richardson. "He's going to be a force to deal with pretty soon," Alvarez said.
Other contributors on the Miller roster include Clyde Reyes, Miles Jackson, Nathan Sanchez, Derek Malabrigo, Joe Wilkins, Jason McClendon, Anthony Vargas, Abraham Vierya, Ryan Lewis, and Johnny Vitela.
The Rebels will get a chance to show their skills in the CIF playoffs this next week.
"It will be a great challenge, and we're looking forward to it," Alvarez said.
