The Miller girls' wrestling team: Front row, left to right -- Danna Castro, Danielle Vazquez, Ashli Alvarez, and Alexis Alvarez; middle row -- Lexis Llamas, Leslie Viguerias, and Isabel Chavez; back row -- Elizabeth Garner, Julissa Guardado, Mercedes Villegas, and Jocelyn Vega.

The female wrestlers from Fontana A.B. Miller High School made history last month by competing in their first-ever dual meet at the school.

Miller has produced several talented individual female wrestlers in recent years (including Monica Samaniego, who won the state championship in her weight class in 2015), but this was the first time that an entire Miller squad had participated in a dual meet.

Coach Jim Kraynak was pleased with the Miller girls, even though they lost to Rubidoux, 35-24, in their Mountain Valley League debut.

The winners for Miller were Danielle Vazquez (116 pounds), Isabel Chavez (160), Jocelyn Vega (170), and Elizabeth Garner (235).

The Rebels also took part in the Eisenhower Tournament and came away with several high honors:

• Danna Castro (143), Chavez (160), and Garner (235) each took second place in their weight classes;

• Vega (170) placed third;

• Ashli Alvarez (116) and Mercedes Villegas (143) both took fourth place;

• Lexis Llamas (150) placed fifth;

• Vazquez (111) and Leslie Viguerias (143) placed sixth.
