Fans of high school football in Fontana will be interested to hear this news: The season will be starting earlier than ever before.

The CIF Southern Section moved up the 2018-2019 sports schedule by one week, which means that Fontana's teams will begin action on Friday, Aug. 17 (except for Jurupa Hills, which will have its first game on Aug. 24).

For Fontana A.B. Miller High School, there are other major changes. The Rebels have moved out of the Citrus Belt League and into the Mountain Valley League, and they will be led by a new head coach, Andrew Amosa.

Miller, which will travel to Eisenhower (a former CBL opponent) in its non-league opener, is hoping to improve upon last year's 2-8 record.

The other Fontana teams that will kick off the year on Aug. 17 include:

• Fontana High School, which will host Arroyo Valley. Jeff Imbriani is the new coach of the Steelers, who were 5-5 in 2017.

• Kaiser High School, which will play at home against Sultana. Coach Bill Cardosi's Cats were 8-4 last year.

• Summit High School, which will travel to Etiwanda for its big rivalry game. Coach Nick Matheny's SkyHawks had a 5-6 record last fall.

Then on Aug. 24, Jurupa Hills will host Fontana in a non-league intra-city clash. The Spartans, coached by Citos Marinez, went 6-5 last year.
