The Southridge Little League baseball 10-11 all-stars have earned another championship banner.
After winning the District 71 title earlier this month, Southridge went on to take first place in the Section 8 Tournament on July 17 with a 5-0 conquest of Hesperia.
Southridge will now advance to the Southern California Tournament, which will begin on Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. at Live Oak Park in Temple City.
Manager Rey Cruz said he was proud of the effort by the undefeated team.
"The bats are hot and the defense is solid, so we're looking pretty good," he said.
In the championship game of the sectionals, Anthony Pardo turned in a superb pitching performance, allowing only one hit to Hesperia. He struck out 14 batters.
While up to bat, the Southridge squad received singles and runs from Pardo, Ashton Ramos, Joel Sanchez, and Jonathon Dorado.
Daniel Soto contributed a single and Elias Cruz scored a run.
The game was close at the start, with Southridge clinging to a 1-0 lead after four innings. But then the locals pushed across two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to clinch the win.
In an earlier game, Southridge erupted for eight runs in the first inning and clobbered Newmark, 12-2.
Southridge’s teams have been quite successful in all-star action in recent years.
