For the third straight year, the Southridge Little League Rays have taken first place in the Fontana Tournament of Champions.
The Rays, who benefited from excellent pitching as well as strong hitting in the tournament, clinched the city's Major Division title with a 6-2 win over the Elks Lodge Athletics in the final game on June 3.
The Rays jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning and then added one run in the third inning and two more in the fifth to clinch the victory.
Anthony Pardo pitched well and also smashed a double while up to bat. Rogelio Romero blasted a double and a single and Ashton Ramos, Elias Cruz, Gabriel Cendejas, and Johnny Dorado all collected singles.
Also contributing to the Rays' success were Nicolas Reyes, Andrew Guerrero, Rolando Nunez, Leonard Avila, Marcus Camargo, and Amor Graves.
Rey Cruz is the Rays’ manager and Gabe Ramos and Russ Mathewson are the coaches.
In previous games in the tourney, the Rays triumphed over the Fontana American A's, 21-0, and the Elks Athletics, 10-0.
